The first stage of your implant treatment is the dental implant placement. This involves the surgical placement of the implant post into your jawbone. The implant post is a small screw, usually made of titanium or another biocompatible material, which works to replace your tooth root. Once placed, it will function just like your original tooth root to stimulate your supporting jawbone and provide a stable foundation for your teeth and implant restoration. We will provide detailed post-op instructions to help you heal following this procedure.
A period of healing will follow your implant placement procedure. During this healing period, the implant post will integrate with your jawbone to ensure a stable, long-term result for your treatment. This process is known as “osseointegration.” Our dentists will be able to work with you to create and place your implant restoration following this healing period.
If you have lost supporting bone tissue prior to receiving an implant, you may need a bone grafting treatment before you can have an implant placed. Likewise, any pre-existing conditions, such as tooth decay or gum disease, will need to be treated before you can receive an implant.

A native of Indiana, Dr. Kashyap Patel earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in biology through Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis before receiving his doctorate in dental surgery from Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, DC. While serving a year in the general practice residency program at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, Dr. Patel expanded his clinical training in hospital dentistry to widen his scope of experience.
A member of the American Dental Association®, Dr. Patel stays on the cusp of modern dentistry by keeping up to date with continuing education courses to further his ability to treat patients. A believer in teamwork dentistry, Dr. Patel enjoys working with his wife, Dr. Priya Patel, because it broadens the scope of their practice, offering comprehensive dental services to all patients.
Outside of the office, Dr. Patel enjoys playing basketball to stay active, and he also enjoys cooking and travel.
Dr. Gapud understands that every patient comes from different backgrounds and past dental experiences. Having had negative dental experiences himself, he is able to empathize with patients who have anxiety in the dental chair. He is passionate about educating patients so that they feel empowered to make the best decision for themselves.
Dr. Gapud moved from his home state of South Carolina after attending the University of South Carolina to attend Howard University College of Dentistry here in the nation’s capital. He completed a 1-year general practice residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. He believes in staying active in the dental profession, being a part of the American Dental Association (ADA), District of Columbia Dental Society and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Dr. Gapud is constantly educating himself by attending continuing education courses and staying up to date with the latest techniques and materials. He believes this allows him to make better decisions for the patient.
Dr. Gapud has discovered a newfound hobby in dance, learning salsa and bachata. Whether it is checking out a new restaurant or an art event, he loves immersing himself in the happenings of DC. He aspires to fulfill his desire to travel by completing dental mission trips across the world.
Dr. Priya Patel was born and raised in Indiana. She attended Indiana University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology with minors in chemistry and social sciences. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Indiana University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Priya worked with a family practice in Indiana for three years before moving to the DC area to open Smile Loft Branch Ave Dental with her husband. Dr. Priya enjoys the opportunity to change her patients’ lives through her work, and she pairs closely with each patient to create individualized care plans that go beyond simply fixing dental problems.
Dr. Priya specializes in many dental cosmetic procedures as well as general dentistry practices. Her continuing education includes the aesthetic continuum course, which has widened her scope for providing smile makeovers. She is also a preferred provider of Invisalign® treatments, recognized for her excellence in orthodontic care.
Outside of the office, Dr. Priya enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as traveling the world, learning new cultures, reading and practicing yoga.
